Award No: CWR-2101-0010
Project Title:

Nano-enabled Adsorptive Membrane Scaffolds as Harvesting Devices for Precious
Lithium Metal Recovery

Lead PI: Prof. Wang Rong
Co-PIs:

Prof. Goto Atsushi (CCEB)

Prof. Zhao Yanli (CCEB)

Dr. Goh Kunli (SMTC/NEWRI)

Host Institution: Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
Industry Partners: Nippon Shokubai Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan
Description:

The project aims to develop high-performance covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as nanoadsorbents for enabling low-concentration lithium metal recovery from seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) brine. The COF nanoadsorbents will be amalgamated with electrospun nanofibrous membrane scaffolds to fabricate an adsorptive harvesting device.

A system process, integrating the adsorptive harvesting device, will be designed and put in place to see through the entire course of lithium recovery from capture right to the conversion of battery-grade lithium carbonate. Successful outcome from this project will help Singapore’s desalination industry turn SWRO brine into an asset.
