Synopsis

This course is a BDE for any undergraduate student with an interest in the French and Francophone language, culture, study and work life, but with no prior knowledge of this widely spoken language. LF5001 will teach you very basic French to the level of A1.1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Using a learner-centric teaching approach, this course will provide you with a very basic foundation in French and will equip you with some very basic knowledge for cross-cultural situations with Francophone speakers. This course practises the four language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) through an action-oriented approach with the aid of a wide range of audio-visual and online activities that relate to yourself such as greetings, identities, time, numbers, hobbies, location and everyday activities. Thus, this course will be beneficial for you to travel, study and work in Francophone countries or for French speaking companies. Learning French might make you more enjoyable in a globalised economy.

In this course more verbs in the present tense are introduced along with verbs in the past tense, extensive vocabulary, grammar and expressions to the level of A1.2 (CEFR). Using a learner-centric teaching approach, this course will provide you with a sounding foundation in French and will equip you with some basic knowledge for cross-cultural situations with Francophone speakers. This course practises the four language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) through an action-oriented approach with the aid of a wide range of audio-visual and online activities that relate to yourself such as health, food, shopping, and travels. Thus, this course will enhance your understanding of the French language and Francophone culture through a variety of classroom and online exercises and experiences.

With the aid of a wide range of audio-visual and online activities that relate to health, accommodation, sport and arts, you will be able to communicate and interact in simple and routine tasks in French while enhancing your understanding of the French language and Francophone culture. Role-plays, teamwork projects and in-class discussions will engage you in meaningful and authentic tasks. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to sit for the officially recognised DELF A2 exam, the external examination for the Certification of French as a second Language.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to sit for the officially recognised DELF B1 exam, the external examination for the Certification of French as a second Language.

Thus, this course will be beneficial for you to live and work in a French speaking country. Upon successful completion of this course, you will also be able to prepare the officially recognised DELF B2 exam, the external examination for the Certification of French as a second Language.​

Synopsis 

This course is a Broad and Deepening elective (BDE) for any undergraduate student who already possess a level of proficiency in the language equivalent to LF5006 or LF9006. Through Task-Based and flipped-classroom approaches, LF5007 will teach you how to interact easily and spontaneously in a clear and detailed manner in authentic situations in French. With the aid of a wide range of authentic audio-visual material and collaborative activities that relate to current affairs, education, work, and cultural heritage, you will develop your communicative abilities (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) to a lower-advanced level matching the B2.2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). Additionally, in-class debates and discussions, teamwork projects and presentations will engage you in meaningful and authentic tasks allowing you to broader your knowledge of French culture and civilisation. Thus, this course will be beneficial for you to live and work in a French speaking country as the CEFRL B2 level is usually a requirement to study or to find a job in a French speaking country.
