This course, designed for complete beginners, is a BDE for any undergraduate student with an interest in the Italian language and the key aspects of the Italian life and culture. Ll5001 will teach you basic Italian to the level of A1.1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This course will enable you to develop the four fundamental language skills - reading, writing, listening, and speaking - to communicate effectively and naturally in Italian. Through a student- centred learning approach, you will be exposed to several types of learning materials, audios and videos; you will be engaged in a broad range of meaningful classroom activities to achieve individual and collective goals, using the language in different scenarios and real-life situations. This course, besides being beneficial for you to travel, study and work in Italy or in an Italian company, will broaden your horizons on the diverse facets of the "Bel Paese" (the Beautiful Country), famous worldwide for its rich historical heritage, its gastronomic variety and its natural beauty.

Learning Outcomes
- Identify information provided in simple Italian written texts and audio files.
- Participate in simple conversations, asking and answering basic questions about yourself, your family, food, living, daily activities and hobbies with a proper pronunciation and intonation.
- Apply learnt Italian grammatical structures and vocabulary to simple sentences.
- Write short essays in Italian, using learned grammar and vocabulary about a familiar topic.
- Create and act a short role-play in Italian.

Synopsis
Ll5002 is a BDE for any undergraduate student who already possess an introductory level of proficiency in the language equivalent to Ll5001. You will gain a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the Italian language, culture and traditions through different types of learning experiences and materials, videos, extracts of Italian movies, class discussions, team-work and hands-on activities. In this course more verbs in the present tense are introduced along with verbs in the past tense, extensive vocabulary, grammar and expressions to the level of A1.2 (CEFR). Through a student-centric teaching approach, you will further develop the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, acquiring more linguistic accuracy and proficiency, using the language in different scenarios and real-life situations. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to sit for the officially recognized A1 CELI-IMPATTO exam, the external examination for the Certification of Italian as a second Language.

- Listen, interpret and comprehend simple Italian spoken content, identifying information.
- Write short texts in Italian, using learned grammar and vocabulary about a familiar topic, in the present and past tense.
- Participate in simple conversations in the present and past tense about yourself and others, travelling, schedules, ordering food, buying groceries, going shopping, daily activities, hobbies, work, study, likes and dislikes, with a proper pronunciation and intonation.
- Create and act impromptu and pre-rehearsed role-plays.
- Discuss the Italian culture, with a particular emphasis on gastronomy, music, geography, festivals and traditions.

This course is a BDE for any undergraduate student who already possess a level of proficiency in the language equivalent to LI5002. Through a student-centred teaching approach and several types of authentic audio-visual and written materials, you will develop further your Italian language ability in the four fundamental language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. You will learn more verb tenses in the past, along with the future tense, extensive vocabulary, grammar and expressions, to the level of A2 (CEFR). During this course, you will be exposed to different facets of the Italian culture, discovering the wonderful uniqueness of each Italian region, enhancing your knowledge on Italian customs and traditions. LI5003 focuses on communication and Italian will be the main language of instruction in the classroom: role-plays, teamwork and project works will engage you in meaningful and authentic communicative activities. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to sit for the officially recognised CELI A2 exam, the external examination for the Certification of Italian as a second Language.
