About

Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH)

A joint alliance by Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the Future Ready Food Safety Hub, or FRESH (未来食品安全中心), presents a unique partnership between regulators, public researchers and industry to collectively and proactively build capabilities in food safety and risk assessment science.

Our key focus is on the integration of food safety assessment into the R&D process to ensure “safety by design” and accelerate the time-to-market of novel foods and agri-food technology and processes.

Partnerships

KEY OBJECTIVES

To enable regulatory responsiveness through early exposure of regulatory scientists to novel methodology developed in the food industry, to address breaking food safety issues early, and hence accelerate product time-to-market

MISSION

To build food safety science and R&D capabilities for Singapore's new food innovation ecosystem, and contribute to national and global efforts to achieve food security.

VISION

To provide a neutral scientific platform to promote collaboration in food safety research and enhance Singapore's regulatory readiness for novel food innovations.

Our Origin Story

Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), in collaboration with the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), officially inaugurated the Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) at NTU on April 27, 2021.

The launch, graced by Ms. Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, featured the signing of the FRESH collaboration agreement by NTU Senior Vice President (Research) Professor Lam Khin Yong, A*STAR CEO Mr. Frederick Chew, and SFA CEO Mr. Lim Kok Thai. The ceremony took place during the opening of the Food Science and Technology Global 2021 (FST Global 2021) conference at the Nanyang Executive Centre Auditorium in NTU.

The conference serves as a platform for local and international food, science, and technology experts to exchange insights, showcase research and innovation, and foster new partnerships and collaborations.

FRESH, established to propel food safety research in 'Food Safety Science & Innovation' under the Singapore Food Story (SFS) R&D Programme, also plays a crucial role in enhancing local food safety science capabilities, contributing to the growth of Singapore's burgeoning food innovation ecosystem.
