Adjunct Professor Dr. Gordon Woo
Dr. Gordon Woo graduated as the top mathematician of his year at Cambridge University. He completed his PhD as a Kennedy Scholar at MIT, and was a member of the Harvard Society of Fellows.
Dr Woo has made his career as a calculator of catastrophes, and is currently a catastrophist with Risk Management Solutions (RMS) USA. His diverse experience includes consulting for IAEA on the seismic safety of nuclear plants and for BP on offshore oil well drilling. As a catastrophist at RMS, he has advanced the insurance modeling of catastrophes, including designing a model for terrorism risk. For his work on terrorism risk, he was named by Treasury & Risk magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in finance.
He is the author of 'The Mathematics of Natural Catastrophes' published by Imperial College Press in 1999, and the sequel 'Calculating Catastrophe' just published in 2011.
