Adjunct Professor Dr. Zuo Huiqiang
Dr. Zuo Huiqiang holds BS degree in structural engineering from Zhejiang University (Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province), MS and PhD degrees in Earthquake Engineering from the Institute of Engineering Mechanics, China Earthquake Administration (IEM, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province). He had worked in the Institute of Geophysics of China Earthquake Administration (Beijing) for two years as a Post-doctoral. Before joined the Insurance Industry of China (September 1999) he was a full researcher conducting study in Seismic Hazard/Risk analysis and application of GIS in Earthquake Engineering.
Between 1988 and 1996 Dr. Zuo was a research fellow at IEM, where he used to work with Prof. Liu Huixian and Prof. Xie Lili in the same team on the critical projects related to Seismic Hazard/Risk Analysis, AI and GIS applications sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Between 1996 and 1997 Dr. Zuo was a visiting scholar at USGS and RMS (Menlo Park) for one year focusing on building China EQ model and Ground Motion Simulation by GIS for San Francisco Bay Area.
Between 1997 and 1999 Dr. Zuo was a Post-doctoral at the Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration (Beijing) in the team of Prof. Hu Yuxian for two years with focus on GIS application and insurance EQ model, joined the National EQ Insurance Project sponsored by PICC, China Re, China Pacific Insurance Company and China Ping An Insurance Company with the guidance of China Insurance Regulatory Committee (CIRC), responsible for rating calculation and building EQ insurance/reinsurance scheme for households in China.
Since 1999 Dr. Zuo has been with China Reinsurance Company (current China Re Group Corporation Ltd) with focus on domestics and international reinsurance business (including CAT), risk management (including CAT), China Nuclear Insurance Pool (CNIP), development of China CAT models.
Currently Dr. Zuo serves China Re Group Corporation, which is the 7th largest reinsurer around the world, in a broad activity. He is the Chief International Business Officer of China Re Group and Deputy General Manager of China Re P&C which gives him the opportunity to underwrite international CAT business and see the rating cycle of the CAT market; He is the Non Executive Board Director of Chaucer Syndicate Limited who is managing Syndicate 1084/1176(nuclear)/2088, which helps him to familiarize Lloyd’s market; He is the Secretary General of China Nuclear Insurance Pool (CNIP), who manages very special nuclear CAT exposure, have developed Material Damage and Liability models for nuclear accidents; He is the Chairman of China Re Catastrophe Risk Management Company Ltd (established in August 2018) focusing on building CAT models and platforms for China Insurance Industry. He is in charge of a critical project “Development and Application of China EQ model for Insurance” sponsored by Ministry of Science and Technology of China, which attracts scientist and engineers from ten research institutes and universities of China.
