Course Schedule

The postgraduate courses offered by MSE are delivered in various formats, including in-person, online, and hybrid (a combination of in-person and online course activities). While in-person courses follow a regular schedule, online and hybrid courses may have complex and irregular schedules.

It is the responsibility of all students to ensure that the courses they register for do not have any conflicting schedules. Before registering for any course, students must refer to the schedule provided below to verify that they are able to attend all compulsory synchronous course activities and that these activities do not overlap with the schedules of other courses they have registered for. Please note that there will be no alternative arrangements for students who miss course assessments due to scheduling conflicts or other non-valid reasons. In such cases, students will receive zero marks for the affected assessment component.

The schedules below exclude all asynchronous or optional course activities, such as pre-recorded lectures, take-home assessments, and consultation sessions. For the schedules of these activities, students should refer to the respective course sites on NTULearn.

Please note that all course schedules are subject to change at the discretion of the course coordinator. Students are strongly advised to check the relevant NTULearn course sites regularly for the latest updates.

In-person courses

All course activities (lectures, tutorials, assessments) are conducted in person. Students are expected to attend all course activities physically during the scheduled class time as indicated below.

Course Waiting List

During the course registration periods, all course registrationssee note M submitted by research students will be placed on the waiting list. Course enrolments will only be confirmed after the end of the course registration periods. Students will receive an email notification from the Office of Academic Services on 21 Jul 2025 (Mon) for Round 1 and 25 Aug 2025 (Mon) for Round 2 regarding their confirmed courses.

MSE research students will be given priority on the waiting list for courses offered by MSE. However, please note that enrolment is subject to course availability and capacity, which is determined at the discretion of the course coordinator. Therefore, priority does not guarantee enrolment, especially for oversubscribed courses, where the chances of successful enrolment may be low.

Prescribed Course Load, Overloading, and Preference Rankings

All MSE research students are permitted to register for up to three coursessee note M per semester, regardless of the Academic Units (AU) assigned to each course. Students who register for courses within the prescribed course load are not required to submit the Graduate Students Course Registration System (GSCRS) form for school approval. These course registrations will be automatically approved, subject to the availability of course vacancies.

Students who wish to overload by registering for a fourth coursesee note M in the semester MUST obtain endorsement from their supervisor. The completed GSCRS form, with the supervisor’s endorsement, must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office via email at msegraduate@ntu.edu.sg by the end of the respective course registration period for consideration and approval.

Students who do not intend to overload but have registered for a fourth course as a backup must rank all four courses in order of preference. These course rankings should be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office via email at msegraduate@ntu.edu.sg by the end of the respective course registration period. The school will approve the top three ranked courses based on availability, and any additional courses will be automatically rejected. Students who do not submit their course rankings will be randomly allocated to any three of their registered courses.

M Not applicable to all University compulsory courses listed under the "Coursework Requirements" section above. The vacancies for these courses are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cross-School/Cross-Programme Course Registration

Research students registering for courses that are not offered to their programme of study must submit their course registrations by 16 Jul 2025 (Wed), 5:00 pm for Round 1 and 18 Aug 2025 (Mon), 11:59 pm for Round 2.

Course Withdrawal

Any requests to deregister from courses after 29 Aug 2025 (Fri) will be handled as course withdrawals. Students will be assigned a ‘W’ grade for all withdrawn courses, which will be reflected in all academic records including the official transcript. The grading will not be included in the computation of the student’s Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Students will remain liable for the tuition fees of any courses withdrawn from during the semester.

All course withdrawal requests must be submitted to the school via email at msegraduate@ntu.edu.sg for approval by 31 Oct 2025 (Fri), 12:00 pm. The email should clearly indicate the course to be withdrawn from and include the reasons for the withdrawal. Late submissions will strictly not be entertained.

Students who fail to withdraw from a course and subsequently do not attend the examination for the course will be deemed to have sat and failed the course, and an ‘F’ grade for the course will be reflected in all academic records including the official transcript. The grading will be included in the computation of the student’s CGPA.

Course Results Release

The course results for AY2025-2026 Semester 1 are expected to be released in late Dec 2025. All students will be notified via their NTU email once the results are available.
