A The AU earned from MS6020 will not be counted towards the fulfilment of the coursework requirements for all research students (PhD & MEng). The attained grade will, however, be included in the computation of the students' CGPA.

B MS8001 is available to PhD students only and may be taken to fulfil the requirements of the Communications / Writing Training Programme. The AU earned from the communication course will not be counted towards the fulfilment of the coursework requirements for PhD students.

Students are reminded that it is their responsibility to refer to the course activity schedule below and ensure that the courses they register for do not have conflicting schedules. Please be reminded that there may be no make-up for students who miss any of the assessments.

Please also be advised that the information below excludes all take-home assessments and may be subjected to change at the discretion of the course coordinator. Students are advised to refer to the respective course sites on NTULearn for the latest updates on the course schedule, if any.

For courses with pre-recorded lectures, students are required to access the learning materials on ATLAS (via NTULearn) and conduct self-paced learning at their convenience.

Freshman students will only be able to access GSCRS and register for courses after they have completed their online matriculation.

Students will only be able to register for and deregister from courses during the periods stipulated above. Students are advised to verify the courses they have registered for before the end of the second course registration period. No changes to the registered courses will be allowed thereafter.

Please note that all students are not allowed to repeat the courses that they have completed for any of their previous NTU programmes (Master of Science, Master of Engineering, FlexiMasters, etc.) during their current programme of study.

Coursework students are not allowed to overload (register for courses with total AU that exceed their prescribed course load in a semester).

Coursework students who are applying for the Coursework and Dissertation study option in their first semester of study must register for 15 AU (full-time students) or 9 AU (part-time students) of courses in the same semester.

MSE coursework students are able to register for postgraduate courses offered by MSE only. The option to register for courses offered by other schools or programmes is not available to MSE coursework students.

D
Applicable to full-time international PhD students who attained their qualifications from non-English medium universities.
E Applicable to full-time PhD students.
F Applicable to all research students admitted in AY2023-2024 and beyond.
G Applicable to all PhD students admitted in AY2024-2025 and beyond.

B. Course Waiting List
During the course registration period, all course registrationsH submitted by research students will be placed on the waiting list and will only be confirmed after the end of the each course registration period. All students will be notified of their confirmed courses via an email notification from the Office of Academic Services on 22 Jul 2024 (Mon) for Period 1 and 23 Aug 2023 (Fri) for Period 2.

MSE research students are given priority on the waiting list for the enrolment of MSE courses. However, please note that course enrolment is still highly dependent on the available course vacancies, which may not be expanded at the discretion of the course coordinator. Hence, it is not guaranteed that you will be able to enrol on your registered courses with the given priority. This is especially so for oversubscribed courses as the chances of students being enrolled on these courses will be low.

C. Course Load, Overloading, and Preference Rankings
The prescribed course load for all MSE research students is three coursesH (regardless of AU) per semester. Students who have registered for courses within the prescribed course load (up to three courses) are not required to submit the Graduate Students Course Registration System (GSCRS) form to the school for approval. The course registrations for these students will be automatically approved by the school, subject to the availability of course vacancies.

Students who wish to overload and register for an additional fourth courseH in the semester MUST seek endorsement from their supervisor to do so. The GSCRS form with the supervisor’s endorsement must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office via email ([email protected]) by the end of the course registration period for consideration and approval.

Students who do not wish to overload but have registered for an additional fourth course as backup are required to rank all four registered courses in order of preference and submit their course rankings to the Graduate Studies Office via email ([email protected]) by the end of the course registration period. The school will approve the top three ranked courses (with available vacancies) and the rest will be automatically rejected. Students who fail to furnish the school with their course rankings will be randomly allocated to any three of their registered courses.

D. Cross-School/Cross-Programme Course Registration
Research students who are registering for cross-school or cross-programme courses (courses not offered to the student’s programme of study) are required to submit their registrations for the courses by 16 Jul 2024 (Tue), 5:00 pm for Period 1 and 19 Aug 2024 (Mon), 11:59 pm for Period 2.

H Excluding other courses listed under section A that are required to be taken by research students but do not count towards their fulfilment of the coursework requirements.

Any requests to deregister from courses after the end of the second course registration period will be handled as course withdrawals. Students will be given a ‘W’ grade for the courses they have withdrawn from in the semester, which will be reflected in all academic records including the official transcript. The grading will not be included in the computation of the student’s Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Students will still be liable for the tuition fees of the courses that they have withdrawn from in the semester.

All course withdrawal requests are to be submitted to the school via email for approval by 1 Nov 2024 (Fri), 12:00 pm. The email shall indicate the course to be withdrawn from and the reasons for the withdrawal. Late submissions will strictly not be entertained.

Students who fail to withdraw from a course and subsequently do not attend the examination for the course will be deemed to have sat and failed the course, and an ‘F’ grade for the course will be reflected in all academic records including the official transcript. The grading will be included in the computation of the student’s CGPA.

The course results for AY2024-2025 Semester 1 are expected to be released on 30 Dec 2024. All students will be notified via their NTU email when the course results are released.
