Organic Semiconductor Materials for Opto and Micro-electronic Devices

 Principal Investigators: Prof Hu Xiao

Organic semiconductor materials have received substantial attention in recent years due to their low cost, ease
of fabrication and versatile material systems. In particular, organic semiconductors have made substantial progress in the area of flat-panel displays.

Recently Kodak and Sanyo Electric developed the active-matrix, full-color organic display as shown in the figure below. Organic semiconductors have many other potential applications, such as thin film transistor, solar cell, sensors, etc. However, there remains much to be done if organics are to be established as potential materials for future electronic industry such as achieving higher luminescence efficiency, longer device lifetime, lower operation voltage, increase the carrier mobility, etc.

Some research activities in organic semiconductors are on going in SME lead by Prof. Hu Xiao in collaboration with Prof. Wong Kin Shun, Terence EEE/NTU. Dr. Ashraf Uddin and their students have been working on organic semiconductors materials to become the pioneer, of future organic opto-electronic industry.
