Physical crime on the decline in most Singapore neighbourhoods

Nearly all neighbourhood police centres saw a decline in physical crime over the past decade, with only Punggol, Marina Bay, Sengkang and Sembawang seeing an increase. According to Olivia Choy, an assistant professor at NTU, of note was the close relationship between age and offending, with the prevalence of offending peaks in the late teenage years, and then declining afterward. Based on this phenomenon, a greater deal of crime and delinquency is expected in areas with more adolescents and young adults, rather than if the same areas were occupied by older adults or younger children.
