Bumper-to-bumper traffic makes cottage commuting a nightmare on long weekends. It doesn’t have to be that way

There has been empirical evidence for the benefits of road pricing for decades now. There’s also research that suggests congestion charges have an upward effect on home prices in the affected area. While that also has a downside related to housing costs, it does demonstrate the benefits of living somewhere where roads have been priced efficiently. Tang Cheng Keat, an assistant professor of economics at NTU Singapore, found that real estate values inside the congestion-charge zone in London are about three per cent higher than those outside it, even in comparable areas.
