Modelling and Optimising Home Care and Caregiver Services for Elderly
Abstract
Singapore is one of the fastest ageing countries in Asia. The speed of demographic ageing is happening at an alarming rate.
Singapore’s elderly citizens aged 65 years old and above will triple to about 900,000, or 18.7% of the total population by 2030. Consequently, there will be higher demands on medical and care needs for ageing-related illnesses as the elderly would normally have encountered chronic diseases as they age and require long-term care. Hence, we need to find innovative solutions to meet the increasing demands for healthcare and social services, improving or at least maintain current homecare quality.
This project aims to build a HOmecare and Caregiving Model for Optimising Services for the Elderly (HOCAMOSE) prototype which provides typical scenarios of homecare and caregiving services using technologies, underpinned by a deeper understanding of human issues such as homecare recipients’ needs requirements, behaviours, social and community support and care.
We will provide five services for elderly clients such as General Health Check/Visit, Meal Plan and Delivery, Medication Delivery and Adherence, Rehab Therapy, and Emergency Response. The HOCAMOSE prototype will be evaluated based on three constructs: (i) Productivity; (ii) Quality, and (iii) Capacity. The novelty of HOCAMOSE lies not only in exploring the usage sensor-based monitoring for smart monitoring, in-home training but also the elder-centric analytics from vast amount of collected data for optimising the scheduling process for homecare services.
