Mr Zaqy Bin Mohamad
Mr Zaqy Mobamad is currently Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence & Ministry of Manpower, and Deputy Leader of the House. He is also a Member of Parliament for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.
Mr Zaqy was previously Minister of State, Ministry of National Development & Ministry of Manpower, and the Deputy Leader of the House.
As Senior Minister of State for Manpower, he has pushed for an inclusive and caring society that will enable all workers to thrive. This includes the improvement of incomes and support for lower-income workers through Progressive Wages, safeguarding the
well-being of foreign workers, making work conditions safer and healthier for all workers and the integration of persons with special needs into the workforce,. Last year, he led the Tripartite Workgroup for Lower-Wage Workers which resulted in 18
recommendations and announced at the Prime Minister’s National Day Rally 2021.
In March, as Senior Minister of State for Defence, Mr Zaqy announced the launch of the NS55 campaign, a year-long celebration to commemorate 55 years of NS and recognise the contributions of past and present national servicemen.
Outside the political sphere, Mr Zaqy enjoyed a successful career in various roles with consultancy and technology firms such as Arthur Andersen, IBM, Dimension Data (NTT Group) and Ernst & Young (EY). He was a Partner at EY before taking political
office in 2018.
Currently, despite his busy schedule, he lends his time as an Advisor for the Singapore Business Federation SME Committee, which provides a platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to discuss, research and analyse SME business issues with
policymakers; as Deputy Chairman of self-help group Yayasan MENDAKI; and as an Honorary Advisor with The Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI).
Mr Zaqy’s previous roles include serving as Board Member of SPRING Singapore and of Singapore Science Centre; Chairman of Chua Chu Kang Town Council and of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Communications and Information; Member of the
Government Parliamentary Committees for Transport and for Finance, Trade and Industry; and Vice-Chairman of Young PAP.
A proud alumnus of NTU and EEE, Mr Zaqy has served the university as an interviewer for the selection of discretionary intake applicants, spoke at the 2006 NTU Distinguished Alumni Forum, and was one of four torchbearers during NTU’s 50th Anniversary
celebration in August 2005. Mr Zaqy has previously been honoured at the Nanyang Alumni Awards, receiving the Nanyang Distinguished Alumni Award in 2019, Nanyang Alumni Achievement Award in 2013 and Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2006.
In recognition of the extraordinary milestones he has forged as a public servant, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Nanyang Technological University, is proud to present Mr Zaqy Mohamad with the EEE Outstanding Alumni Award.
