Mastering the Balancing Act

⚖️Mastering the Balancing Act

The Double Degree in Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Engineering and Bachelor of Social Science in Economics programme in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is an option that aligns with both Jovan’s academic interests and his career aspirations. He was, and continues to be, passionate about issues such as sustainable development, seeing them as integral to addressing the pressing environmental challenges we face today while ensuring economic viability.

“I believe that Environmental Engineering would provide me with the technical skills to develop sustainable solutions, while Economics would equip me with the analytical tools to assess the economic impact of these solutions.” Indeed, the pursuit of both these disciplines has not only broadened his perspective but has also equipped him with a unique skill set which he believes will help him achieve his career goals of joining the sustainability sector and contributing towards a more sustainable future.

He is currently a third-year undergraduate student at CEE and is interning at PSA International, working in their Group Climate Response Command department. PSA is a global port operator and supply chain solutions provider, operating ports worldwide, including here in Singapore.

“I am only in the first half of my 20-week internship. However, I feel that I have already learnt and gained a lot from the experience. I have been able to see the theories and knowledge taught in NTU applied to the real world as well as learn valuable workplace skills.” He is assisting with market research to help PSA identify opportunities and challenges in electrifying their container handling equipment as they pursue their ambitious sustainability and decarbonisation targets.

In addition to his dedication to sustainable development in his academic pursuits, Jovan has a dynamic and enriching student life with diverse experiences and memorable encounters.

“There are so many opportunities to engage in extracurricular activities that you find fun or fulfilling! Even though I personally enjoy indulging in computer games during my downtime, I've had the opportunity to connect with fellow students who share my enthusiasm for the school and hall activities available, such as the Welfare Services Club, Chinese Orchestra, and Night Cycling, just to name a few.”

“Importantly, NTU provides us room to strike a balance between academics and extracurricular activities - a balance that I've found essential for personal growth and fulfilment.”

Beyond his involvement in school clubs, Jovan was a Hall 6 Captain for Wei Qi and has proudly represented his hall in the Inter-Hall Recreational Games (IHRG) on three occasions. “Leading training sessions in my Hall and introducing the game to beginners was an enjoyable experience. Playing the game is fun, but being able to share the game with others added an additional layer of joy!”

“Additionally, I find that going down to the Recreational room in my Hall is great way to unwind and reconnect with friends at the end of a long day. For those who intend to reside in halls, I highly recommend participating in Hall activities. It is a good way to meet new people and enrich your student life in NTU!”

Now, you may be curious about Jovan's MBTI type. His well-rounded student life and active involvement in extracurricular pursuits have fostered leadership skills, expanded his social network, and allowed him to contribute meaningfully to causes close to his heart.

Undoubtedly, Jovan's MBTI profile aligns with ISFJ, reflecting his dedicated and thoughtful nature!
