The Garage
Learning @ CresPion refers to both physical and educational spaces in the Crescent and Pioneer (CresPion) Hall of residents at Nanyang Technological University, in harmony with the new concept and philosophy in NTU residential education. Since 2014, four learning spaces (Garage, Studio, Kitchen, and Giveback) have been developed to facilitate students’ holistic development by offering opportunities for an integration of hands-on concrete experiences and conceptual reflective thinking.
The Garage offers CresPion residents opportunities to tinker with tools and art materials, such as a 3D Printer.
The workshop aims to introduce participants to the basic concepts of machine learning, and in this context deep learning algorithms and approaches, where global interest has been steadily growing over the past few years for applications in research, industry and even entertainment.
Participants will learn how to build, train and execute a deep learning program in this introductory workshop series based on python programming and Pytorch. In the first session, participants will learn the very basics of machine learning and deep learning, build a simple neural network with Pytorch to perform image classification with the MNIST written hand-digit dataset. In the second session, participants will be introduced to more advanced techniques as well as concepts of Convolutional Neural Networks and apply the methods to further improve the performance of their MNIST model.
