Dr. Ho Shen Yong is the Executive Director of the Institute of Pedagogical Innovation, Research and Excellence (InsPIRE) at NTU. He joined Nanyang Technological University in 2011 as a Physics lecturer. Prior to that, Dr. Ho taught at Hwa Chong Junior College from 1998 to 2003. He then pursued his graduate studies in Physics at the University of Toronto from 2004 to 2009. Subsequently, Dr. Ho conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Center for Quantum Technologies at NUS from 2009 to 2011.


Dr. Ho is passionate about education. As a lecturer for the freshman engineering Physics course, he has actively developed learning activities to help students enhance their thinking skills and appreciate the connections between textbook knowledge and real-world applications. In 2014, Dr. Ho helped establish the "Making and Tinkering" course, where students are free to design and construct almost any technological prototype within a semester. To date, the course has produced more than 140 student projects. Dr. Ho has received several teaching awards, including the Nanyang Education Award (University, Gold) in 2018. That same year, he was appointed Principal Lecturer in the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.  Dr. Ho is also the Provost’s Chair in Physics since 2019.
