Dr Imelda Caleon Presents at the Raffles Science Symposium
Dr Imelda Caleon, Research Scientist and Assistant Dean (Partnerships) at OER, was invited to conduct a lecture on the topic “Current Trends in Positive Psychology and Positive Education” at the Raffles Science Symposium (RSS) that took place on 29 January 2020. The RSS is an annual event organised by the Raffles Institution, in collaboration with Raffles Guidance Centre (RGC) and the Peer Helpers Programme (PHP), that features research projects on science and mental health. Dr Caleon’s lecture falls under the strand on mental health, which focuses on promoting awareness of mental health among members of the institution.
Dr Caleon provided a comprehensive overview of the current trends in positive psychology and its applications in education. She introduced the early conceptualisation of positive psychology and laid out the emerging perspectives in recent years. The field of positive psychology is moving towards the direction of a more balanced and nuanced approach to understanding and appreciating the human experience. In closing, Dr Caleon brought the topic back to the field of education and shared with the participants the implications of these new developments for classroom management and mentorship.
