Co-Operative Education

The SPMS Co-Operative Education Programme is a SkillsFuture Work-Study Degree programme that places students in leading companies during their undergraduate studies. Participating students undergo a sequence of credit-earning structured work experiences, learning how to put their academic knowledge to use at the workplace.

Benefits

Practical Training — The job training programmes are designed jointly by the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) and the participating companies to supplement academic knowledge with practical examples.

Mentoring by Professors — Each participant receives personal mentorship and guidance from an SPMS professor.

In-depth Exposure — Extended training experiences in the same company exposes students to different functions in the organisation.

Career Opportunities — The skills and insight acquired by participating students give them an advantage for future hires!

How to Apply

Applicants must apply to an SPMS degree programme before applying to the SPMS-CEP. The application period is during Semester 2 of the first year of study.

The following materials are needed for the application (please note that these materials will be forwarded to the participating companies):

  • Cover Letter and Resume (as a single file, in PDF format)
  • A brief explanation of interest in the programme

To be admitted to the programme, students must also successfully secure an internship placement with a participating company. The School will facilitate this placement.

Students in the SPMS-CEP are required to complete three Professional Attachments/Internships during the following periods:

  • Year 1 Special Semesters I & II (10 weeks)
  • Year 2 Special Semesters I & II (10 weeks)
  • Year 3 Semester 2 + Special Semesters I & II (30 weeks)
    OR Year 3 Special Semesters I & II + Year 4 Semester 1 (30 weeks).

The course codes and titles, for students in the different major programmes, are shown below:
