Executive Certificate in Carbon Markets
Climate change poses significant challenges to the environment and society, demanding substantial and urgent action from all stakeholders. A key policy response emerging globally is the utilisation of carbon markets as a tool to price greenhouse gas emissions and direct mitigation efforts in concrete ways.
Recognising the important role that carbon markets play in the journey to Net Zero, and as part of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, Singapore aims to become a leading carbon services and trading hub in Asia. To achieve this vision, there is a growing demand for talented professionals in Singapore and across the region to support the development of this critical ecosystem.
The Executive Certificate in Carbon Markets is designed to help meet this need by equipping business leaders and professionals with a solid foundation in carbon markets (compliance, sectoral and voluntary), carbon measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) and key elements of the carbon project lifecycle. Offered in three modules, the intensive nine-day programme is the most comprehensive carbon markets and trading course in Singapore, addressing the rising demand for expertise in these areas.
You will explore climate action essentials, delve into the details of carbon markets mechanics, and gain practical insights into the corporate toolkit of greenhouse gas measurement, target setting, and mitigation action. The programme will equip you with the knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving landscape of carbon markets and drive meaningful environmental impact.

Programme Testimonials

"I am privileged to be part of the inaugural batch of the Executive Certificate in Carbon Markets by Nanyang Technological University. This well-structured program strikes a perfect balance between theoretical foundations with real-world applications, offering rich insights into the evolving carbon markets.
Delivered by a mix of academics and industry experts, the course provided invaluable knowledge, engaging discussions, and meaningful networking opportunities. I highly recommend it to professionals looking to navigate the complex carbon markets and contribute to the global sustainability agenda. Thank you, NTU, for this exceptional learning experience!"

"Having had positive experiences with Nanyang Business School through other Executive Certificate programs on sustainability topics, I was eager to enroll in their new Carbon Markets course. As someone transitioning into the carbon space, I found the course both informative and engaging, with valuable discussions with lecturers and fellow participants.
The opportunity to learn from leading experts in both academia and industry about the mechanisms that drive carbon markets was particularly beneficial. Although I work for a major climate solutions firm, my role does not provide many opportunities to engage in carbon project development, so the chance to dive into these processes was incredibly valuable. It helped me appreciate that creating a high-quality carbon project is no easy feat!
A key takeaway from the course was the understanding that while the carbon market is still evolving, there is rapidly developing governance and innovation aimed at maintaining the integrity of high-quality carbon markets. This helped me understand the frameworks and policies supporting the growth and success of the carbon space, and it has made it easier for me to follow and contribute to some of our internal technical discussions.
I also appreciated the in-depth discussions on Emissions Trading Systems and carbon taxes, which provided a clearer understanding of how these factors interact within the market. The class exercise, led by Prof. Daniel Lee, left a lasting impression on me. This thoughtfully designed activity involved role-playing, where we took on different positions to negotiate key aspects such as carbon tax implementation, subsidy provision, and ITMO (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes) negotiations with other teams. The hands-on nature of this exercise offered valuable insights into the complexities and challenges of the carbon market, sharpening my understanding of real-world obstacles. In particular, it required us to consider the interests of various stakeholders and the impact on different industries, enabling us to derive outcomes that align with achieving our country’s climate action plan.
As someone working in the carbon industry, the course also helped me identify common questions and misconceptions the public may have about carbon markets. It deepened my knowledge and enabled me to better explain these concepts to my clients. Furthermore, the exchange of market practices among the lecturers and other professionals was invaluable. It allowed me to compare our internal practices with those of others and identify ways to improve and innovate.
I would highly encourage anyone seeking a career in the carbon space or looking to understand the impact of climate risk and opportunities to take this course."

“Am very proud to be part of this inaugural class for Executive Certificate in Carbon Markets (ECCM) course by NTU. We have learnt a lot about both carbon markets as an important and valuable asset class, as well as carbon markets as a diverse and growing ecosystem.
What is invaluable about this course as well is the wide range of priceless guest lectures and networking sessions from industry experts across the entire carbon market value chain. I’m sure I echo the many sincere thanks from my fellow classmates to Prof Daniel Lee for curating such an intense and practical course. Finally, taking this course is an affirmation by many of us who still believe that we can do our part to mitigate climate change and affirm our commitment to Net Zero”.

"I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Professor Daniel Lee and the esteemed faculty for delivering an exceptional and impactful learning experience on Carbon Markets. The programme was thoughtfully structured and offered a comprehensive overview of key themes, including climate science, global policy, carbon pricing, emissions accounting, and carbon trading mechanisms etc. The content was both academically rigorous and highly applicable to real-world sustainability and decarbonisation challenges.
A particular highlight was the series of panel discussions and fireside chats with senior leaders and seasoned practitioners in the carbon space. Their practical insights and candid sharing added immense depth to the learning and offered valuable perspectives on navigating the evolving carbon economy.
It was also a privilege to learn alongside a diverse and experienced cohort of professionals. I left the course inspired and better equipped to contribute meaningfully to energy transition, ESG strategy, and sustainable investment decisions, and I'm grateful for the new friendships formed during the course too!"

It has empowered me to engage more effectively with colleagues and industry practitioners on carbon-related initiatives. The knowledge gained has strengthened my work on big data applications for ESG, enabling more informed decision-making."
