The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), in collaboration with the esteemed Department of Cardiology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), proudly offers the Graduate Diploma in Cardiovascular Medicine (GDCVM) programme. This unique programme is tailored for medical doctors eager to deepen their expertise in cardiovascular medicine, a field of growing importance and demand.

The Graduate Diploma in Cardiovascular Medicine (GDCVM) is designed to equip family medicine physicians with the necessary competencies to play a bigger role in providing outpatient care for cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients in the community. Currently, outpatient care for CVD patients is provided mainly by specialist clinics in general hospitals and private practice. Family doctors provide care mainly for less complex CVD conditions, such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia, and refer more complex cases to specialist clinics.

This initiative to upskill family doctors in cardiovascular medicine is aligned with Ministry of Health's policy to transform outpatient care for chronic diseases. The core paradigm of this transformation is to shift from hospital-based to community care and to promote prevention over treatment of chronic diseases. This transformation in healthcare delivery would reposition family doctors to play a pivotal role in chronic disease management.

Given these considerations, CVD offers a niche and untapped strategic space for postgraduate medical programmes, which can ride on the momentum in the current healthcare transformation. Nanyang Technological University is the first and only institution in Asia to offer GDCVM targeting family doctors.

The GDCVM aims to contribute to a higher standard and better accessibility of care for CVD patients and the transformation of chronic disease management in Singapore. The GDCVM programme comprises five teaching modules and clinical attachment, to be completed in one academic year. To strike a balance between flexibility in programme delivery and interactive learning, the content will be delivered with pre-recorded online lectures, interactive learning, clinical attachment in the hospitals.

50 CME core points in Family Medicine will be awarded to SMC-registered doctors after completing the programme.
