The School works on both functional and structural materials for advanced defence applications. The research work focuses on enhancing existing systems and the development of new material systems for soldiers and vehicles.
Areas of Research
- Development of functionally graded materials for protection against ballistic and electromagnetic attacks
- Development of low power flash goggles
- Thermoelectric materials for automobiles
- Synthesis of super-hard nanomaterials
The programme focuses on the development of high value functional materials and technologies. The research activities encompass materials innovation and platform integration for various advanced applications in defence. Nanomaterials and biomimetic technologies are applied to facilitate the development of new systems. The School works closely with Temasek Laboratories@NTU, Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), and also DARPA in USA on many collaborations, such as the advanced camouflaged systems and various protection systems for soldiers.
