Ode to the Tree of Education - for the NIE on her 75th birthday

To honour NIE75, we celebrate it with the timeless power of poetry. Poetry uniquely captures history, aspirations, and the human spirit, making it a fitting tribute to our legacy. 

Associate Professor Tan Chee Lay has written a poem that reflects our transformation, our gratitude for the past, and our hopes for the future.  

It pays tribute to educators, students, supporters, and the wider NIE community— all of whom have shaped this incredible journey.

2025 marks 75 years of NIE’s impact on education and 60 years of Singapore’s independence, celebrating how education and nation-building have shaped our shared future.

Charting New Horizons: Beyond 75 Years of Innovation in Teacher Education conveys a sense of exploration, innovation, and forward momentum. It emphasises setting a new course and reaching for new opportunities, which could resonate well with themes of growth grounded in values, diversity, and lifelong learning.

To celebrate NIE75, we will be showcasing its rich history of innovation in teacher education and research, connecting the past, present, and future. 

The year-long celebration will engage stakeholders — staff, students, alumni, faculty, industry partners — through storytelling, interactive experiences, and thought leadership that focuses on the NIE’s contributions to education and its role in shaping the future.
