College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS)

The College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) represents the dynamic interface between several major disciplines in four distinct schools and two Centres. They are the School of Art, Design and Media; the School of Humanities; School of Social Sciences; the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information; the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration; and the Centre for Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

The College offers graduate research programmes in Master of Arts in Art, Design, and Media, Art History, Chinese Studies, English Literature, History, Linguistics and Multilingual Studies, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology; Master of Communication Studies, Master of Applied Sciences, as well as Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in various art, communication, information, humanities, social sciences disciplines. In addition to social sciences areas mentioned above, students can also do a PhD in Economics and Public Policy and Global Affairs.

Master of Public Administration (MPA) 

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) programme is customised to equip you with a global-Asian perspective in decision-making, governance, policy design and implementation. Throughout the programme, you will be exposed to real-world issues, engage in strategic transnational policies, and glean key insights from senior public officers and faculty members.

The programme is fully taught in English and aims to connect and groom public administrations and leaders throughout Asia. The MPA programme is open to both full-time and part-time students.

Course Requirements

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) programme allows for a credit transfer of up to 3 courses from the 3 CE Master’s courses (LC, LDO, ADSP) completed up to NTU’s accreditation requirement in Phase I. To successfully obtain the Master's degree, students are required to complete an additional 2 core courses, 3 elective courses and 1 capstone paper in Phase II.

3. CoHASS-MPA

 

Master of Media and Communication (MMC) 

The Master of Media and Communication (MMC) Programme is designed for those who are planning to have a career in the communication industry. The Programme is also tailored to help prepare working professionals towards leadership positions. The curriculum exposes students to theory, research and practice and how these can be applied to the workplace. The programme encompass all areas of professional communication with a focus on three main areas – Strategic Communication, Public Communication and Digital Marketing. Many graduates have since assumed leadership positions in the industry.

Course Requirements

The Master of Media and Communication (MMC) programme allows for a credit transfer of up to 2 courses from the 2 CE Master's courses (LDO and LC) completed up to NTU's accreditation requirement in Phase I. To successfully obtain the Master's degree, students who choose the Coursework Only track are required to complete an additional 4 core courses, and 4 general electives in Phase II. Students who choose the Coursework + Dissertation track are required to complete an additional 4 core courses, 2 general electives and 1 dissertation in Phase II.

Master of Science (Knowledge Management) 

The emergence of the knowledge-based economy has highlighted the need for effective exploitation of knowledge, making knowledge management a key area of activity in both the public and private sectors. This is the backdrop against which the Master of Science (Knowledge Management) programme has been designed. Knowledge management is the systematic process of taking advantage of intellectual capital and knowledge assets for organisational success. It helps build the capacity of the organisation by developing, organising, retaining and utilising its human and knowledge resources. This programme helps students design and implement knowledge management initiatives in their organization.

The Master of Science (Knowledge Management) programme allows for a credit transfer of up to 2 courses from the 2 CE Master’s courses (LDO and LC) completed up to NTU’s accreditation requirement in Phase I. To successfully complete the Master’s degree, students who choose the Coursework Only track are required to complete an additional 2 core courses and 6 electives in Phase II. Students who choose the Coursework + Dissertation track are required to complete an additional 2 core courses, 4 "A" electives and 1 dissertation in Phase II.
