Course Exemption
Chemistry and Biological Chemistry
Course exemptions are available to students who enrolled with appropriate prior background.
Exempted courses are listed with an “EX” grade in the degree transcript. They do not count toward GPA calculations, but the earned Academic Units contribute toward graduation requirements. However, the University requires at least 69 AU of letter-graded courses, and at least 3 academic years of study, for the conferral of an undergraduate degree. Exempted courses are considered non-graded courses. Moreover, exempted courses cannot be used to fulfill minor requirements.
Course exemptions are strictly applicable only to students enrolled in the first year of study. No exemption applications will be accepted afterward. No exemption applications will be accepted for courses offered as Unrestricted Electives, Broadening and Deepening Electives or GER Prescribed Electives for CHEM students.
Students qualifying for course exemptions will be informed by the CCEB Undergraduate Office via email in July. Instructions on how to exercise the course exemption option will be included in the email.

POLYTECHNIC DIPLOMA
Exemptions for polytechnic students will be reviewed annually and circulated online before school starts. Top local polytechnic students may be granted course exemptions depending on the diploma and courses that students have taken in their respective polytechnic, and if they satisfy the requirements/conditions set by the School. Generally, students with relevant Advanced Certificate, Diploma Plus certificate and/or Certificate of Merit or Distinction may be considered for exemption from up to 4 courses or 12 AU, depending on the relevance of the polytechnic courses taken and the grades obtained.
All Exemption submissions should be accompanied by the following Supporting Documents:
