Exemption Considerations
Students who are granted course exemptions are considered to have earned the credits for the exempted courses. However, please note that these exemptions do not contribute to the students' grade point average (GPA) since they do not carry any grades. As a result, the GPA calculation will only reflect grades from higher-level courses, which often require greater effort to achieve high scores.
While course exemptions can provide students with the opportunity to advance to more advanced courses sooner, potentially accelerating their academic journey, students must ensure that they possess a solid understanding of the exempted course content. This is critical to avoid any knowledge gaps that could hinder their success in subsequent courses.
How to Apply
This is a one-time opportunity for eligible students to accept or opt out of course exemptions. Freshmen who qualify for these exemptions will receive a notification via email by mid to late July. This will include a link to an online exemption form that they must complete. There is no need for separate application.
The online form will display the courses for which students can apply for exemption. Students will receive the outcome of their exemption request via email before the start of the semester.
