On 11 February, LKCMedicine staff and faculty, together with their loved ones, gathered at the Silver Garden, Gardens by the Bay for a day of fun, games and bonding at the inaugural LKCMedicine Carnival Day.

Organised by LKCMedicine Cares, an initiative focusing on staff’s mental health, physical wellness and social well-being, Carnival Day was the first physical event that brought LKCMedicine employees and their families together since the COVID-19 pandemic.

There was light rain but spirits were not dampened as close to 400 attendees, including LKCMedicine Governing Board Chairman Mr Lim Chuan Poh and his wife, bonded over games, fringe activities and delicious food at various live stations.

Carnival Day also marked the conclusion of the School’s virtual charity event “Run It Forward”, which raised more than $33,000 to help disadvantaged communities. At the event, LKCMedicine Dean Professor Joseph Sung and a group of Year 2 students clocked additional distances for “Run It Forward” with a jog in the gardens.

The third edition of the charity run, which was launched in 2020 in celebration of the School’s 10th anniversary, saw the LKCMedicine community and friends running distances of 10km, 30km or 300km (as an individual or team of four) from 11 November 2022 until 11 February 2023. The proceeds will go towards the President’s Challenge, LKCMedicine Advancement Fund and NTU Priorities Fund.

A beneficiary of “Run It Forward” since its inaugural edition, the President’s Challenge, supports various disadvantaged communities in Singapore through its 82 beneficiaries. One of the beneficiaries, Social Health Growth, an organisation supported by President’s Challenge, was present at the Carnival.

The NTU Priorities Fund was set up in 2020 to address urgent financial needs faced by NTU students affected by COVID-19 with no other recourse for help while the LKCMedicine Advancement Fund allows the School to allocate resources to areas which are most needed to advance its vision of redefining medicine and transforming healthcare.

The School will continue to give back to society through events and initiatives that bring the LKCMedicine community together for meaningful causes.
