From Felled Trees to Guitars: An Upcycling Journey - A Talk by Adam Chan

Date: 19 August 2016
Venue: Experimental Medicine Building, L3, Collaboration Space

Join us on Friday, 19 August and meet Adam Chan, the creator of guitars made with timber from local trees - felled due to diseases. One of Adam’s works was recently unveiled by the National Parks Board (Singapore) at an event and his project was also featured in the Straits Times in June.

An NTU Alumni and Engineer by training, Adam will be sharing his experience on repurposing local trees such as Raintree and Khaya trees, to create high quality guitars. He will be sharing how his love for trees, support for conservation of environment and his passion for music have compelled him to give up his full-time job as a personal excellence trainer, to a full-time guitar craftsman. Adam will also share the challenges he encountered in this unusual journey and how he solved these problems with practical solutions and various inventions. This talk ends with a short performance by Adam using a guitar made from local trees.
