NTU enters top 30 of Times Higher Education global rankings

NTU Singapore is ranked 30th in this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, climbing two spots from last year’s ranking and becoming the youngest university in the top 30. For the first time, NTU is ranked in the Top 30 of all three major global ranking indices – namely Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), THE, and US News & World Report.

NHG partners NTU and LKCMedicine to advance medical education

The National Healthcare Group (NHG) has joined hands with NTU and LKCMedicine to establish a medical education and research system that aims to promote research translation in clinical practice and enable medical professionals to better use new technologies. NHG, NTU, and LKCMedicine signed a memorandum of understanding at the Singapore Health and Biomedical Conference on 10 October 2024 to announce the establishment of the NHG-LKCMedicine-NTU Singapore Academic Health System.

Dementia Research Centre (Singapore) wins at Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress (SHBC) 2024

DRCS Centre Manager Ms Leow Yi Jin clinched Silver in the Young Investigator Awards (Clinical Research) for her presentation, Mild Behavioural Impairment as a Clinical Correlate of Early Neurodegeneration. Additionally, Research Associate Mr Qiu Bocheng was awarded Bronze in the Best Poster Award (Clinical Research) category for his poster on retinal biomarkers for early detection of cognitive impairment.

LKCMedicine alumni receive NHG’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award 2024

Sixteen alumni from LKCMedicine were awarded the National Healthcare Group MVP which recognise junior and senior residents, medical officers and PGY1s who have displayed outstanding character in their work. They tirelessly strive to enhance patient care and contribute to making NHG a supportive and outstanding place to work at. Click here for the award winners.

Dengue survivors at higher risk of long-term complications than COVID-19: Singapore

A research team led by LKCMedicine has found in a Singapore study that people who have recovered from dengue fever are more likely to face long-term health complications one year later compared to people who have recovered from COVID-19. The findings were published in the academic journal Journal of Travel Medicine. Compared with people who had contracted and recovered from COVID-19, those infected with dengue had a 55 per cent higher risk of cardiac complications, including arrhythmias, heart disease and blood clots.

Strengthening the LKCMedicine Faculty

On 1 August 2024, Assoc Prof Yusuf Ali was appointed Vice-Dean (International Relations), Assoc Prof Yasunori Saheki was appointed Vice-Dean (Faculty Affairs), and Ms. Daisy Chen was appointed Lecturer in Medical Education. Dr Saravana Ramasamy was appointed as Assoc Prof of Metabolic Medicine on 19 August 2024. Asst Prof Tom James Carney was promoted and granted tenure as Assoc Prof on 1 September 2024. On 1 October 2024, Dr Liang Kun was appointed as Asst Prof of Cutaneous Drug Delivery while Dr Tan Hwei Ee was appointment as Nanyang Asst Prof (NRF). Dr Anjali Kusumbe was appointed as Assoc Prof of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine on 4 October 2024.

Delegation Visits

On 26 August 2024, University of Melbourne’s Dean of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences Prof Jane Gunn and Prof Doris Young toured the Centre for Healthcare Innovation’s (CHI) Simulation and Integrated Medical Training Advancement Centre and LKCMedicine's key research and education facilities. On 16 September 2024, 30 healthcare professionals from the Government of Odisha, India visited LKCMedicine, learning how the School trains future doctors and visiting the Anatomy Learning Centre at the Novena Campus.
