Dr Khor Ean Teng co-publishes a journal article in the International Journal of Information and Learning Technology

Dr Khor Ean Teng, Education Research Scientist from the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), co-wrote a journal article titled “Prediction of students’ performance in online learning using supervised machine learning” in the International Journal of Information and Learning Technology. The study leverages network analysis to visualise students' interaction with learning resources and uses the data derived from network analysis to predict the future performance of students. Social network graphs were constructed and centrality values of learning resources were calculated. Support Vector Machine classifiers were trained and tested on the centrality values of learning resources. The centrality values reflect the importance of specific resources in the students' learning process, while interaction patterns provide insight into student engagement and learning behaviors. The study suggests future improvements by including more attributes such as time spent with resources and examining which learning resources contributed the most to a student's performance.
