BH noted that a lecturer from the English Language and Literature Department at NIE, Ms Donna Lim, said there were many reasons behind why some children found it difficult to write or showed no interest in writing. The report noted that MOE was looking at ways to help students improve their writing skills in English using a scoring system powered by artificial intelligence (AI). MOE had opened a tender for an automated system that could among other things correct grammar, sentence structure and expressions. When launched, teachers could save time from correcting basic language errors in order to focus on higher-level skills such as persuasive and tone skills. Parents were also encouraged to support the child’s reading habits and donate books to friends, charities or the library once their child has finished reading them.
