The Research-Practice-Policy Group hosts Visiting Scholar, Professor Sin-Wang Chong from the University of St Andrews and National Institute of Teaching

From 20 - 22 November 2024, the Research-Practice-Policy Group (RPPG) had the privilege to host Visiting Scholar, Professor Sin-Wang Chong from the University of St Andrews and National Institute of Teaching (NIoT)!

Prof Chong delivered two talks – the first on practical insights into decision-making in academic publishing, navigating the publishing process and discussed the various types of publications with early career researchers and Office of Graduate Studies & Professional Learning’s (GPL) postgraduate students.

In his second talk, he co-presented with colleagues from NIoT, Dr Calum Davey and Dr Ellen Turner, about opportunities and challenges associated with conducting "close-to-research" practice, which underscores the symbiotic relationship among evidence creation, synthesis, translation, and use. They also shared about the projects held at NIoT on how to maximise engagement and impact. Finally, RPPG had a closed-door discussion about his work at TESOLgraphics and SingTeach, our teacher-friendly e-magazine, where we exchanged ideas and talked about potential collaborations in the near future!

A big thank you to all who joined us in person and online for the talks, and we hope to see you at the next seminar!
