Unlocking Success: Exploring the New Teaching Resource for Chinese Language Support in Primary Education

On 31 August 2023, the Division of Chinese Language in the Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC) Academic Group of the National Institute of Education was honoured to invite Mdm Xu Jinhong, Senior Specialist at the Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education to share on the new teaching resource《ABLE教学大家行》for the Mother Tongue Support Programme (MTSP)

Mdm Xu introduced the pedagogical approaches, teaching strategies, lesson activities and learning materials specially designed for Primary 3 and Primary 4 students in the MTSP programme who require additional support to learn the Chinese language. Student-teacher Mdm Deng Min from the Postgraduate Diploma (PGDE) programme also did a teaching demonstration on how she incorporated different activities to keep students engaged throughout the lesson. From the sharing session by Mdm Xu and the teaching demonstration by Mdm Deng, the attendees gained deeper understanding on the new teaching resource《ABLE教学大家行》as well as the various teaching strategies that they can adopt to make learning Chinese Language a fun and engaging experience for their students.

The session ended with a question-and-answer segment whereby student-teachers had the opportunity to clarify their doubts with Mdm Xu. The Division of Chinese Language, ALC, NIE would like to thank Mdm Xu for taking the time off her busy schedule to share her valuable insights with fellow aspiring teachers. It was indeed a fruitful and meaningful sharing session!
