“This is a very special year for LKCMedicine. It is the year we launched our enhanced NTU MBBS programme, welcomed the biggest cohort of students, and established Singapore’s first Academic Health System together with our primary partner National Healthcare Group. We also made remarkable research achievements including the significant Large Collaborative Grant awarded to Associate Professor Sanjay Chotirmall and his team, and the launch of OPEN Voices to engage patients in our research,” highlighted LKCMedicine Dean Professor Joseph Sung in his opening remarks, setting the tone for the School’s fifth Dean’s Awards and Appreciation Day.

Held on 3 December 2024 at the Ong Tiong Tat and Irene Tan Liang Kheng Auditorium, the highly anticipated annual event celebrated the commitment and outstanding achievements of staff and faculty who made it possible for LKCMedicine to grow from strength to strength in the past year and embark on its new chapter as an NTU medical school.

To kick-start the event, 130 LKCMedicine senior leaders, faculty and staff were treated to a lively performance by Strawberry Story, a duo from ART:DIS, a non-profit organisation that champions learning and livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities in and through the arts. The attendees sang along to the performers’ renditions of Keala Settle’s “This is Me” and Bruno Mars’ “Count on Me”.

This was followed with a video by the School’s Senior Management commending the award winners and reflecting on LKCMedicine’s progress for the year. Award recipients were then invited on stage to receive their trophies from the Dean. During this staff appreciation segment, 55 LKCMedicine researchers and staff were recognised for their years of service to LKCMedicine and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU).

With much to be proud of, attendees’ buoyant spirits could be felt as they participated in the exciting fringe activities at the auditorium foyer. In addition to enjoying scrumptious finger food, many flexed their creative muscle by designing their very own thermos flasks or gathered their colleagues to strike their best poses at the 360-camera booth.

The Dean’s Awards and Appreciation Day was a meaningful way to take stock of the year and strengthen collegial ties as the LKCMedicine community gears up for an eventful 2025.
