Certificate in Teaching Students with Hearing Loss

Overview

The certificate programme will allow teachers to have greater knowledge of the impact of hearing loss on learning and the approaches in supporting these students in the classroom. The landscape in the education for students with hearing loss has changed with a new initiative of including students who use sign language in the mainstream schools. To level up the skills and knowledge of the teachers in mainstream and special education schools, we recognise the need to provide opportunities for teachers to deepen their knowledge and teaching pedagogy.

The programme aims to:

  • To develop greater knowledge of appropriate supports for students with hearing loss in the classroom.
  • To understand the development of language and social emotional needs in students with hearing loss.
  • To deepen the understanding of teaching approaches to support communication, language and literacy learning.
