Lee Lin Ping

Lin Ping is a Teaching Fellow at the Singapore Centre for Character and Citizenship Education at the National Institute of Education (NIE).

He has served as an education officer with the Ministry of Education (MOE) for 20 years. He believes  that good values serve as the anchors for our students in an ever changing world. As the Student Leadership Coordinator, he oversaw the development of leadership skills and dispositions in students. He also looked into how data can enhance character education as the Subject Head (Data Management). Lin Ping later joined MOE’s Organisation Development Division as an Organisation Development officer where he was part of the core team looking into Organisation Excellence efforts such as Enterprise Risk Management, Balanced Scorecard and Singapore Quality Class. In his previous posting as Head of Department (Character and Citizenship Education), he led the school’s efforts to build and enhance the school’s curriculum in Character and Citizenship Education. Currently at the SCCCE, he helps to develop professional learning in CCE for education officers and is involved in research pertaining to teacher professional development in CCE. 

Ng May Gay

May Gay is a Research Fellow at the Singapore Centre of Character and Citizenship Education who works on establishing the theoretical and philosophical foundations of CCE through education research. She was Lead Specialist (2016 – 2022) for Character and Citizenship Education as well as Assistant Director for National Education (2014 – 2016) in the Ministry of Education, Singapore. May Gay’s areas of expertise include the planning, design, development and implementation of the Character and Citizenship Education policy and curriculum. She is committed to the teaching profession and has been providing professional development for both pre-service and in-service teachers on a diverse range of related topics to character education, citizenship education and social-emotional learning. Her research interests encompass values and ethics, and pedagogy and assessment for character education and citizenship education. 

Ong Chin Leng

Chin Leng is a Teaching Fellow at the Singapore Centre for Character and Citizenship Education at the National Institute of Education (NIE).

As an educator with MOE for more than 10 years, Chin Leng believes strongly in Positive Education, an integrated approach cultivating the intertwining aspects of academic and wellbeing of a child, with its aim towards building flourishing communities. In schools, he held both Science and Student Wellbeing portfolios, designed interdisciplinary project curriculum in wellbeing, and led a Professional Learning Team for staff applying positive psychology into their daily work. At MOE Schools Division, he coordinated Secretariat efforts for GEAR-UP, a national initiative in secondary schools to strengthen protective factors for the vulnerable and at-risk students. Currently, at the SCCCE, he contributes to the research and professional development of teachers in CCE.

Siah Swee Chuan

Swee Chuan is a Teaching Fellow at the Singapore Centre for Character and Citizenship Education at the National Institute of Education (NIE).

He has served as an education officer with the Ministry of Education (MOE) for more than 15 years. He believes strongly in the importance of character education, and as Subject Head (History), he looked into the design of History lessons to emphasise the inculcation of values. He also oversaw the school’s overseas learning journeys and organised various National Education programmes to develop students to become active citizens. Subsequently as a Year Head, Swee Chuan formed part of the core team to lead the school’s efforts to look into students’ character development and well-being. He then joined MOE’s Guidance Branch as Senior Guidance Officer and looked into the professional development of teachers in Character and Citizenship Education (CCE), with focus on building teachers’ literacy of mental health and resilience. Currently at the SCCCE, he continues to look into the development of teacher professional learning in CCE and the future translation of CCE research into teacher professional development. 
Tan Fangxi

Fangxi is a Teaching Fellow at the Singapore Centre for Character and Citizenship Education (SCCCE) at the National Institute of Education (NIE).

She has served as an education officer with the Ministry of Education (MOE) for 15 years. In her years of service, Fangxi had the opportunity to work on and lead in various aspects of education in schools and at the Headquarters. This ranged from examining how assessment supports teaching and learning, developing scientific literacy in youths, and designing meaningful learning in Character and Citizenship Education (CCE). Most significantly, her work in supporting primary schools in the initial stages of assessment reform sparked her interest in the role assessment plays in education, motivating her to pursue her Master of Arts at the Institute of Education, University College London in 2014.

Prior to joining SCCCE, Fangxi was the Head of Department for CCE in a junior college. At the centre, she continues her work in the professional development of teachers in CCE, and hopes to contribute towards efforts to strengthen the connections between research, practice and policy in CCE.

Jallene

Ms Jallene Chua

Jallene is a Research Associate at the Singapore Centre of Character and Citizenship Education, National Institute of Education (NIE). Jallene studied at the University College London, UK, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with First Class Honours, and was conferred the Dean’s List Award from the Faculty of Brain Sciences in recognition of her academic excellence. In 2018, she was the sole recipient of the prestigious Professor Malcolm Grant Scholarship, which enabled her to further her studies with a Master of Science degree in Psychology of Education from the Institute of Education, University College London, UK. 

Before her current role, Jallene served as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) at NIE and later as a Research Associate at the National Institute of Education International (NIEI). She is driven by a strong passion for education and child development, and believes that Character and Citizenship Education is vital for the flourishing of the next generation to become healthy and lifelong learners. Jallene also believes in promoting well-being and fostering an inclusive educational environment that celebrates diversity.

Geok Teng is a Research Assistant at the Singapore Centre of Character and Citizenship Education, National Institute of Education (NIE).

Prior to joining SCCCE, Geok Teng was an undergraduate at the National University of Singapore studying Psychology and English Linguistics. At NUS, she was also a member of the NUS Child Development Lab where she contributed to research efforts on the moral development of children. Geok Teng was conferred the Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honors (Highest Distinction) in Psychology and was awarded the John Elliott Prize in recognition of her academic excellence in Developmental Psychology. She believes that the development of children’s character and citizenship is the foundation that shapes their learning and growth. Currently at the SCCCE, Geok Teng supports ongoing research on character and citizenship education.
