The Visiting Professorship aims to bring in experienced professors or scholars to advise, teach and collaborate on research within the field of Malay Studies at NIE, give public lectures and publish the MAS Professorial Lecture and Research Series, thereby further enhancing the academic rigour and international recognition of this subject area.
About Dr Muhammad Ariff Ahmad
The late Dr Muhammad Ariff Ahmad (12 December 1924 to 23 March 2016) is celebrated for his unparalleled contributions to Singapore’s nation-building particularly in literature, Malay language, and Malay education. His influence permeates various domains, marked notably by his involvement in crafting the lyrics of Majulah Singapura and his extensive roles in numerous national councils and committees.
A former lecturer at the Institute of Education, Patterson Road, Dr Ariff’s profound impact on Malay language education and his bestowed title of ‘pendeta’ (a Sage), affirm the deserved establishment of Muhammad Ariff Ahmad Professorship, ensuring his legacy of wisdom and dedication continues to inspire future generations.
