The Visiting Professorship aims to attract top minds to the Institute that contributes to the vision of the Singapore’s education system for the future, starting with the development of educational programmes and research. The NIE will create opportunities for exciting collaborations between professors, enabled through the setup of an Impact Grant to support research activities or projects in this area.

Dr Lien Ying Chow (1906 – 2004) was born in Guangdong, China, and immigrated to Singapore at the age of 14 in year 1920, with barely enough. He was an extraordinary business leader and banker, best known as the founder of Overseas Union Bank. He was also a dedicated community leader, trusted diplomat and big-hearted philanthropist.

Dr Lien was closely associated with education throughout his life. He believed in helping the poor and needy through formal education, and he played a key role in the founding of Nanyang University, the predecessor of Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Area of Expertise: Research and teaching interests include disability support needs assessment and classification, transition from school to work, vocational training and employment, mental and emotional health, social and interpersonal skills training, behaviour of concern and risk enablement, and Active Support for people with disabilities.
