
Overview
The NIE Learning Festival 2025 features a selection of more than 20 engaging workshops and keynotes, covering cutting – edge topics such as AI-tools for education, climate change misconceptions, STEM curriculum development, computational thinking, educational neuroscience and using drama to teach. Led by experts, these bite-sized workshops give participants the opportunity to sample some of NIE’s courses and make them a feature of their professional learning pathways for the year. Participants will also have the opportunity to discover the latest educational resources, tools, and technologies to enhance their teaching practice as well as connect with like-minded educators to exchange ideas and create valuable partnerships with our experts.

- Each day features two keynote speeches and two workshop sessions.
- Each session offers concurrent workshops across four strands.

Designing Learning in the Digital Age

Synopsis
In the digital age, learning is increasingly redefined by emerging technologies, such as Generative AI, which presents both promises and perils for education. Drawing on findings from recent studies, I discuss how educators can design meaningful and multimodal learning experiences that prepare students to navigate and thrive in our brave new world.
Profile
Fei Victor Lim is Associate Professor and Deputy Head (Research), English Language and Literature Department at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is a literacy researcher and an educator with expertise in multimodality in education. He is interested in how and what we should teach learners in today's digital age.

Geospatial Technologies in Humanities and Sustainability

Synopsis
This keynote explores the application of geospatial technologies like remote sensing and GIS to address pressing sustainability challenges. Drawing on real-world case studies, it highlights how these tools can support multidisciplinary teaching, offering practical ways to connect environmental and societal issues in humanities and geography classrooms.
Profile
Edward Park, Assistant Professor at NIE and Principal Investigator at Earth Observatory of Singapore, NTU, is a Nanyang Research Award (Young Investigator) 2023 recipient and recognized among Stanford’s Top 2% Scientists. Specializing in Physical Geography and sustainability, his research spans Southeast Asia’s rivers. He serves as an editor for leading journals like Journal of Hydrology.

Lifelong and Self-directed Learning – Lessons Learnt from an Educator

Synopsis
This keynote will provide practical tips and suggestions on how current educational focus areas (e.g. metacognition, CCE, 21CC, curriculum frameworks, technology) in the Singapore educational landscape can be mined to synthesise learning (and teaching) strategies to hone and enable internalisation of routines and habit of minds for lifelong and self-directed learning.
Profile
Dr Hang Kim Hoo is currently the President of the Singapore Mathematical Society. He was Specialist Inspector (Mathematics), Senior Curriculum Specialist (Mathematics) and led four schools (Clementi Town Secondary School, NUS High School of Mathematics & Science, Jurong Junior College and Jurong Pioneer Junior College) before retiring from education service.

Ms Rosie Connor

The Uncommon Sense of MESSY Leadership

Synopsis
School leadership is messy, and school leaders need to be increasingly adaptive, collaborative and emotionally intelligent. Ms Connor will share insights from coaching over 20,000 school leaders worldwide to unpack the top nine challenges faced by school leaders and offer some practical strategies to support you to thrive as a ‘MESSY leader’.
Profile
Rosie Connor founded BTS Spark to enable school leaders globally to access world-class leadership development at not-for-profit prices. She previously worked for England’s National College for School Leadership and facilitated the launch of Australia’s Professional Principal Standard. Rosie was named in The Educator Magazine’s list of “The Best Educators in Australia Influencing Culture and Reform,” within the category “Most Influential Educators 2023.”
