As an author, Dr Pillai has spent years passionately and actively honing her craft through writing and publishing various books based on the Malayalee heritage in Singapore as well as academic papers, poems, stories and newspaper articles. Most recently, her translation of a historical fiction novel by Kamaladevi Aravindan deftly brought to life a forgotten chapter in Sembawang’s rich history for an English reading audience. A recipient of three Teaching Awards for excellence over the years, Dr Pillai is adept at making her subjects interesting and igniting her students’ passion for learning and writing.
