What We Do
The interdisciplinary department focuses on understanding learning and assessment. The learning focus (both formal and informal) involves designing, implementing, integrating the learning environments for pedagogical innovations, with or without technologies.
The assessment focus is concerned with the recognition, reporting, rewarding and ramifications of learning and achievement. It envisages and evaluates the process and outcomes of learning in measurable and also in holistic ways for both summative and formative purposes.
The academic group is committed to quality scholarship, inquiry into the relationship of theory and practice, research in diverse educational contexts that contribute to the existing knowledge base and expertise in Singapore and the global teaching and learning community.
The academic group goal is to lead the future of Education in Learning Sciences and Assessment through Advancing Research, Inspiring Learning and Teaching, Transforming Assessment.
Undergraduate Programmes
Learning Sciences & Assessment (LSA) Department offers two core courses that are undertaken by all student teachers in all the ITP programmes. These are: ICT for meaningful Learning and Teaching and Managing Students at the Secondary/Junior College Levels.

Research and Consultancy
The academic staff of the Learning Sciences & Assessment (LSA) Department are involved in a variety of research and development projects. Technological Content Knowledge (TPCK), are some of the well established research areas that are helmed by LSA. Developmental projects materials, e.g., video cases, for LSA's courses, have also become another key focus.
