ILA0021 | Introduction to artificial intelligence | Artificial intelligence (AI) encompasses human-like problem-solving and decision-making abilities and is typically implemented through man-made systems, including computer programs. Its application spans diverse domains such as education, healthcare, law enforcement, and the arts. Given the influence and recent democratization of AI systems, it is imperative to equip individuals with the essential conceptual knowledge and competencies required for success as professionals, innovators, consumers, and responsible citizens. This two-day project-based learning PD will be designed to introduce AI fundamentals. Through this course, students will engage in hands-on activities to gain a deeper understanding of AI. ILA0048 | AI for self-directed learning and self-assessment | The emergence of generative artificial intelligence technology that can produce human-like text responses, such as ChatGPT by OpenAI, has been transformative. Teaching and learning can similarly be re-envisioned using these powerful tools. In this hands-on course, teachers will develop their knowledge of, and skills in, generative AI for teaching and learning. Teachers will also be exposed to NIE’s newly developed free web-based chat app called TeacherGAIA, powered by OpenAI GPT models. The webapp has numerous affordances to promote self-directed learning and self-assessment. These include a library of AI models to support different forms of learning such as inquiry-based learning, knowledge construction and self-assessment. Teachers can also tap on other affordances such as differentiated instruction via teacher-customizable AI models and visibility of student chat logs. ILA0057 | Explore the key applications of AI tools for education | This course will share some insights of the AI tools that are relevant to the participants. Participants will learn practical tips and strategies to leverage AI as a value-added tool in their teaching and learning. They will gain hands-on experience with the AI tools and discover the potential to enhance their lesson planning and development. The course will conclude by discussing some ethical considerations of using AI in Education. |
ILA0058 | Design considerations for learning experiences with AI | This course will focus on the key considerations when designing a technology-enabled lesson with AI tools. Participants will plan learning experiences that facilitate the development of students’ 21st-century competencies and integrate AI technologies into the classroom. |
ILA0059 | Using generative AI in Singapore’s educational contexts | The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has brought about promises and challenges for various sectors, including education. This course aims to enhance educators' understanding of generative AI, including its affordances and limitations, and support them in using generative AI in their respective educational contexts to enhance teaching, learning and assessment. Subject areas: Languages Computational thinking |
ILA0060 | Assessment in the Age of Generative AI (GAI) | This 6-hour workshop empowers educators to harness the power of generative AI (GAI) for transformative assessment. Learn how to (a) craft classroom assessments that seamlessly integrate AI tools, (b) leverage GAI to create precise and insightful performance descriptors in rubrics, and (c) utilize GAI's personalized feedback capabilities to maximize student learning. You will get to see examples from other educators and get the opportunity to obtain feedback on your own GAI-assisted assessments. Lastly, the course will discuss the opportunities and limitations of GAI. Upcoming run: To check OPAL2.0 for 2025 course dates (pending). |
ILA0065 | Artificial Intelligence (AI) Competencies for Teachers: AI-assisted teaching and AI-enabled lifelong professional learning | The UNESCO AI Competencies for Teachers framework has identified specific competencies deemed essential for educators considering the increasing development and prevalence of AI use in education. In this two-day workshop, teachers will develop competencies related to AI-assisted teaching and AI-enabling lifelong professional learning by engaging in discussions, designing a lesson plan and trialling it with an AI-enabled classroom interaction simulator, as well as a sharing of lesson plans to gain new ideas and deeper insights. In addition, teachers will use learning analytics to consolidate their learning and development from the workshop. Upcoming run: https://place.nie.edu.sg/CourseSearch/CourseDetails/5497 |
ILA0066 | AI literacy for fostering inquiry and constructivist learning environments | This course equips educators with a foundational knowledge of AI literacy with an integration to learning. Participants will acquire the knowledge necessary to cultivate inquiry-based and constructivist learning environments by utilising generative AI (GenAI) tools. The course fosters a dialogue among educators and practitioners to develop “use-cases” for GenAI in a variety of subjects, allowing them to utilise AI for individual and collaborative learning. It is particularly well-suited for educators who are seeking to incorporate emergent AI capabilities into their instructional methodologies, including computer supported collaborative learning environments.
