Completion Routes
In order to graduate, participants can choose one of two completion routes.
The MA by Coursework Entirely Route
Participants who choose to take the MA by Coursework Entirely route have to complete seven courses in total plus MAE990 Integrative Project,
as specified below:
- The Core Course MAE900 Research Methodology in Applied Linguistics.
- Two Required Specialisation courses.
- Three electives from the MA in Applied Linguistics programme.
- One open elective (participants have the option of doing a fourth MAAL elective or choosing one elective from any NIE programme).
- The capstone course MAE990 Integrative Project.
The MA by Coursework with Dissertation Route
Participants who choose to take the MA by Coursework with Dissertation route have to complete six courses in total plus the dissertation, as specified below:
- The Core Course MAE900 Research Methodology in Applied Linguistics.
- Two Required Specialisation courses.
- Two electives from the MA in Applied Linguistics programme.
- One open elective (participants have the option of doing a third MAAL elective or choosing one elective from any NIE programme).
- The dissertation.
Rate of Completion
The following table offers some of the commonly chosen completion routes available to part-time and full-time students. Please note that students may vary their rate of completion depending on their preferences but should consult with the Programme Leader first to make sure they meet all requirements in a timely manner.
Accreditation
Participants who have been granted accreditation of selected courses in the MA in Applied Linguistics programme may seek approval for a different completion route. The personalised schedule must be planned in consultation with the MA Programme Leader.
