Student Feedback on Teaching

Why your feedback matters

Instructors’ feedback for students help them learn better. Students’ feedback for instructors help them teach better. Each student feedback for teaching (SFT) should take around 5 minutes to complete.

Your SFT feedback contributes to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in NTU.

Your SFT feedback allows you to develop professional habits of providing feedback.

Your SFT feedback is confidential and anonymous to your school, faculty and instructors.

The SFT makes a difference. Please take time to do them.

Your SFT responses help NTU to maintain high standards of teaching and learning quality. They also contribute to enhancing the course for future students.

Guidelines for Professional Feedback

Just as you appreciate and benefit from fair and constructive feedback, it is important to do the same when providing feedback to your faculty and instructors. Here are some guidelines to help you provide clear, professional feedback that earns credibility and achieves desired changes:

Be Specific: Focus on particular aspects of the teaching. Specific feedback is more actionable than vague comments.
Instead of saying, "The lectures are boring," try saying, "I find it challenging to stay engaged during the lectures. Perhaps incorporating more interactive elements could help."
Be Respectful: Frame your feedback respectfully and constructively. Avoid personal attacks and focus on teaching methods and course content.
Instead of saying, "The instructor is bad at explaining," try saying, "I sometimes struggle to understand certain concepts. Could we have more practice opportunities?"
Be Balanced: Highlight both positives and areas for improvement. Balanced feedback is more constructive and shows you recognize the instructor’s efforts.
"I appreciate your expertise, but the lesson can be hard for newcomers to follow. More opportunities for class discussions might help."
Be Proactive in Providing Interim Feedback: Discuss with your instructor how you and your classmates can provide interim feedback before the SFT, allowing for timely improvements.
Check if informal surveys or mid-semester evaluations are welcome. This way, instructors can respond to suggestions while the course is ongoing.
