1st Runner-up in Sembcorp - EMA Energy Challenge (SEEC) 2018

About the Competition: Participants are placed in the shoes of a power engineer and are introduced to Singapore’s Energy Trilemma (Sustainability, Environment and Profitability) where they are required to react to real world issues faced by the energy sector in the Power Quest simulation game.

Date of the competition: 2 November 2018

Achievement: 1st Runner-up

Prize: $800

REP Students: Tan Liang Ming, Shawn Lim, Wang Yi and Matthew Loo

Description: As part of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW), they took part in an exhibition, youth dialogue session and an experiential learning journey to Pulau Ubin Microgrid testbed. They were exposed to the leading technologies and innovations in the energy sector and participated in the Power Quest which simulated how real life power engineers manage their power plants. They had to take into account the Energy Trilemma (Sustainability, Environment and Profitability) and react to events similar to real world situations such as potential shortages in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), fluctuations in demand, changes in government policies and space constraints. After refining our strategies in the trial run, they eventually emerged as 1st runner up for the Power Quest Challenge.
