Advance HE

Being an Advance HE fellow visibly demonstrates one’s commitment to tertiary teaching and learning quality, and officially recognizes work related to research, policy, development and reflection on one’s teaching practices and outcomes. These come alongside opportunities to participate in higher education network events, and access to curated resources on teaching and learning, governance, leadership development, as well as equality, diversity and inclusion. There are currently over 180,000 Fellows globally.

Fellowship is grounded upon the revised Professional Standards Framework (PSF), published in the United Kingdom in 2023. The framework recognises university teachers’ contribution to teaching and learning through a framework enabling eligible staff to apply for four categories of Fellowship – Associate Fellowship, Fellowship, Senior Fellowship and Principal Fellowship.

  1. Associate Fellow – suitable for individuals with professional experience that may not evidence all required PSF dimensions and whose practice primarily influences students. Individuals whose work focuses more on supporting the learning of students indirectly may consider this option.
  2. Fellow – suitable for individuals whose portfolio heavily involves teaching of students and evidences all required PSF dimensions.
  3. Senior Fellow – suitable for individuals whose work primarily involves influencing colleagues and peers. Their work typically involves training or developing others to deliver high quality learning.
  4. Principal Fellow – suitable for highly experienced individuals with a sustained record of effective strategic leadership and whose work involves influence of teaching and learning strategies and policies at the institutional level.

A diagnostic tool is available on the official Advance HE website for those seeking further guidance on what fellowship level best suits their current position and portfolio.

As NTU is a member institution, its faculty and staff qualify for an institutional discount. Further support for fellowship applications from CTLP avails in the form of writing workshops, collaborative sessions, and feedback exchanges with existing institutional fellows.
