Teaching & Learning GenAI Use Cases (advanced)


NTU’s inaugural STEPS symposium (Strategies with Technology for Enhancing Pedagogy Symposium) was held on 4 March 2024. These are the highlights of a panel discussion which showcased various NTU GenAI applications for teaching and learning.

There are more advanced and transformative ways GenAI can reshape pedagogical activities in higher education. They highlight GenAI’s potential for promoting higher-order thinking, personalising learning pathways, and even collaborating as a partner on research tasks.  Key principles include embracing AI as a collaborator, designing activities that combine human and AI strengths, and continuously evaluating outcomes. Here are some examples from chapter 3 of the free ebook Generative AI in Higher Education (Chan & Colloton, 2024).


Teaching:

  • Develop comprehensive case studies and scenarios for applied learning
  • Create interactive simulations and educational games
  • Provide embedded tutoring and formative feedback within lessons

Learning:

  • Engage in Socratic dialogues to promote critical thinking
  • Collaborate on open-ended projects and creative tasks
  • Personalise learning pathways based on student inputs

Research:

  • Co-author sections of research papers and grant proposals
  • Analyse datasets and visualise findings
  • Ideate novel research directions leveraging GenAI insights

Administrative:

  • Automate grading for objective assessments
