Tips and Guide

There are more advanced and transformative ways GenAI can reshape pedagogical activities in higher education. They highlight GenAI’s potential for promoting higher-order thinking, personalising learning pathways, and even collaborating as a partner on research tasks.  Key principles include embracing AI as a collaborator, designing activities that combine human and AI strengths, and continuously evaluating outcomes. Here are some examples from chapter 3 of the free ebook Generative AI in Higher Education (Chan & Colloton, 2024).

Teaching:

  • Develop comprehensive case studies and scenarios for applied learning
  • Create interactive simulations and educational games
  • Provide embedded tutoring and formative feedback within lessons

Learning:

  • Engage in Socratic dialogues to promote critical thinking
  • Collaborate on open-ended projects and creative tasks
  • Personalise learning pathways based on student inputs

Research:

  • Co-author sections of research papers and grant proposals
  • Analyse datasets and visualise findings
  • Ideate novel research directions leveraging GenAI insights

Administrative:

  • Conduct sentiment analysis on course feedback
  • Generate data-driven recommendations for programme improvements
